Description

The horse has been central to existence, culture and spirituality in Mustang, Nepal an ancient Kingdom on the fragile Tibetan border. With lush cinematography, and insightful interviews, Talking to the Air explores the local festivals and shares remarkable stories from Mustangs royal families and other great young horsemen. In a land where a mans wealth can still be measured in horses, death defying races are the colorful back-drop for this story of the ascent of civilization in the high Himalaya. The film also recounts the little known story of the CIAs covert operations in Mustang, and features rare archival footage of the Dalai Lamas flight on horseback over the Himalaya. The scholarly and perceptive voices of Dr. Sienna Craig – author of “Horses Like Lightning” and Mikel Dunham, author of “Buddha’s Warriors” are also featured. This beautiful film also turns a lens on issues of globalization, fragile border politics and the precarious future for Mustangs distinctive equine culture. This documentary film is part of an ongoing series from Horsefly Films Rare Equine Trust – a cinematic library dedicated to capturing the stories of rare horse breeds and vanishing equine cultures.
