One Week from Opening Night!

Although the idea of the Himalayan Film Festival occurred only 2 short months ago between strangers over coffees in Kathmandu, the Festival is now only 1 week away from opening night!

Not only is it a five day festival, happening across three cities in the Bay Area and boasting a lineup of over 14  films, it also has garnered unbelievable community support. We are honored to have The Asia Foundation, Center for Asian American Media, Amnesty International USA, Bay Area Friends of Tibet, Sahayeta (a Bay Area, Nepalese Alliance),  East Bay Express, the cities of Berkeley and Oakland as official sponsors. In addition, we are so grateful to have the support of Berkeley’s 30th annual Himalayan Fair and will be screening four films at the Fair.

Only two short months ago, three Bay Area residents crossed paths with a chance meeting in Kathmandu. Although Bev Hoffman, Justin Barker and Kendra Caprece were in Nepal for very different reasons, they bonded over their common passion, experience and current work in social justice, community partnerships and documentary production.

With an immense love for the Himalayan region and strong roots in the Bay Area, they decided to bring the Himalayas home by organizing a Himalayan Film Festival set to take place May 15-19 in Berkeley.

The festival will not only showcase some of the best documentary and narrative films coming out of the Himalayan region but will also provide community members with an environment to take further action on important contemporary social issues.
